An eventful and successful first season for KECC in the U17’s league concluded with a terrific 7 wicket win at Rawdon on a beautiful evening last night.
We restricted them to 104 with some great bowling and sharp catching.
In our innings we bounced back from a maiden first over in which we lost 2 wickets to coast to victory, losing only 1 more wicket on the way and finishing with more than an over to spare.
Over the league season we have won 5, lost 4 and had 3 rained off. We qualified for the upper tier “Super 8’s” on our first ever attempt and were competitive in every match. We lost honourably in the cup to Otley, the runaway league leaders, who were very sharp and had 3 senior first teamers playing.
I reckon our bowling has been our best element. Fielding and batting have been good in patches, with some absolutely amazing catches and drops!
With some results still to come in, it looks likely that of the 16 clubs with U17’s sides we will come 6th. Not bad for rookies.
Most importantly of all, the lads have done it with smiles on their faces, playing with their mates and with a great KECC spirit.
What started out as a bit of an experiment has turned into a great success for the club, that must return next year.
