We made the trip to Olicanian today hoping for the run of losses to finally be over but alas it wasn’t meant to be today…
We won the toss and chose to bat first. It didn’t start out all too well with both Ed and Rob being dismissed for 3 and 6 respectively. Micky came into bat and batted really well getting 31 and steadying us on. We collapsed a little bit really with no one able to gain much in the way of runs, Adam got a quick 23 before being caught and bowled by Waite. Liam batted well getting 47 and just missing out on his 50. Tom Mileham was another stand out getting 38* and not looking too bad with the bat!
None of our batting was enough to stop Olicanian’s bowling – B Rhodes, N Waite and P Hall all got 3 wickets in their bowling spells (Rhodes – 15/6/54/3, Waite – 15/1/38/3 and Hall – 6/0/19/3) they all bowled really well.
We were all out for 178 after 46 overs. That’s all I can really say about the batting – there wasn’t anything spectacular and we lacked some top order stand out performances really.
So we went out to bowl hoping for a repeat of our first encounter with Olicanian this season were we bowled them out cheaply and got our win.
Adam and Liam opened our batting and couldn’t find a breakthrough. So Olicanian’s score kept climbing until Barker was run out on 27 and we hoped that would be the start of things to come and a change in proceedings.
Micky and Tom Garman found our other wickets – Tom dismissing McGuinness for 65 and stopping his lovely innings in his tracks.
Olicanian took their time to get our score getting 181 after 43 overs. But they had the luxury of being able to take their time and bat steadily and effectively.
Sam Winter bowled well – his first spell looking really good but lacking wickets – 6/2/13/0 he ended up with figures of 11/3/38/0.
Micky and Tom Mileham had the best afternoon for us both proving to be invaluable in our batting and bowling performances. But even they can’t do it all on their own and we just lacked some more clout to get the win.
I hope we get back to winning ways soon – I don’t like this losing lark!
